Hello,
I am a newbie here ............ ![]() And a newbie to Toyotas!!! I am in the process of turning an '85 Toyota 4X4 truck back into a diesel. The truck is new to me and two owners before me, the factory diesel was removed and a 22RE was installed. ![]() The gas motor is toast and I bought the truck that way. I found a Toyota diesel motor locally so reasonably I dare not say, it was said that it may of came out of an '84 so we may have a 2L on our hands ..... yippeeee! Today, we got it fired up on a pallet ....... and it runs great ...... and at an idle ........ has 60 pounds of oil pressure ..... albiet cold pressure as we have no water hooked up. Now the REAL FUN begins ........ making an honest truck out of her ....... again !!! ![]() Three 44s Last edited by Three44s; 02-07-2010 at 12:43 AM. |

Well ....... it seems I have this little problem!
My existing mill is a 22 RTE ...... and that's a whole different kettle of fish! T as in turbo. But as near as I can tell ..... what makes trouble is that Toyota used a completely different transmission (transfer case) just for adding the turbo. And it will not work with a diesel? Also I am still trying to discern which diesel I have. (1L or 2L) My diesel has the alternator with the vaccuum pump on the back of it. Does that make a 2L or am I just wishin' .......... ? Thanks in advance Three 44s |

honeslty you can pick up a w56 for about a 100$ give or take, the thing you need is the diesel bellhousing to match up with as gasser trany... as for the 22RTE tranny it might work with but you'd have to see if it fit with the diesel bellhousing.. as for weather you have a 1L or 2L hard to say without some pics, but my 2L has the pump on the back of the alt, however I bet the 1L does too...

Thank you for the heads up. I did not realize these Trans were as reasonable as that.
I have the diesel bell housing since my L engine came with a five speed manual for a a 2wd truck. I don't see my gasser trans ..... a R151x working. I'm guessing trading stock? I farm and am not a hot rodder ...... either a 1L or a 2L will suit me for my "puttin" needs. Regards Three 44s |
