I've been running 31-10.5-R15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws on my 91 Surf. I bought them used a year ago for $300 with a nice set of rims and so far I've put between 25-30k kms on them. In the year that i've had them wear has been pretty minimal. They maybe had 50% tread when i bought them...and they'll easily be good for another year. Off road, they're unstoppable...they've gotten me out of situations that i had no business getting out of. On road, they're a little loud but they handle snow/water equally as well as they handle mud....not great on ice though.

Everybody seems to love the BFG AT KO. Which is (hopefully) a good thing as that is the ONLY tire I can get in the USA in the size I want, which is 33x10.50x15. (Yes I am aware the BFG MT KM2 but I will do the majority of my driving ON-road and don't want the mud terrain tire with its inferior ice and rain and snow handling.)

If I would go with a 12.50 tire the world would be my oyster (just WHAT the heck does that saying mean and how did we get it???) but I do NOT want to go with a tire that wide. In fact have even given some considerable thought to a 33x9.50x15 which again is ONLY the BFG AT KO.

I'm not a fan of BFG's but sure like Bridgestone for more expensive tires and Cooper for just plain economy with performance.

My BF Goodrich AT’s are getting to the end of their life. They have been great tires and I’m strongly considering another set.

I’ve determined that my priorities in terms of performance are: tread life, rain, snow and then mud. I drive 90% of the time on road and almost half of that is in the rain. Offroading is usually just logging roads for camping in the summer and snow on the road up to our local mountain in the winter.

Considering that mix I’m borderline as to whether I actually can justify having all terrains. I know all seasons would save me money on the tires and on fuel.

The other all terrains I’m looking at are the Pro Comps. They seem pretty similar to the BFG’s tread pattern and have a 50,000mile warranty. A friend of mine has them on a Dodge 2500 w/Cummins TD. He swears by them for performance and tread life.
Here in the other arctic i use Coper studded tires for winter, and thinking about Bfg at or mt for summer use. in general there is no perfect tire for both winter and summer. And the mt do behave well on asphalt and gives many miles. downside is fuel consumption and a more noise.

I voted for the BFG as they have always treated me well. The new Goodyear wrangler duratrac look really interesting though. Little more aggressive then the BFG and cheaper too.

Yellow stone is my first choice in the best all terrain tyre.
