Well this is the beginning, i have a 1KZ-T on it way with 5-speed manual. I will be working on this the next 4 months in between Buffalo weather. This is my first diesel and im sure i will need lots of help and advice along the way. As i go through this i will post updates and pics. I have a few things on my mind so far since i dont have the manual yet but i need to get my self figured out on the fuel lines, supply, filters, starter hook up, alternator hook up, and well the glow plugs, to find a timer or to manual hook up like some have said. So if there is anyone who wants to chime in to get me going im open to feedback, cheers to the new year!!!!!Zac

Awesome! congrats!! Was it a half cut? Where did you get it?
I am eyeballing the 1KD-FTV or 1KZ-TE. My concern is the parts. What will you do to maintain it? What vehicle is it going into? Sorry for so many questions. I'm just so excited about it. Pablo :thanks: |

Well to tell you its a very new low miles engine so i hope i dont have to do anything for a long time! I think i will have to get parts from NZ or else! I hope shes tough. The te you are talking is going to be harder but you have all the parts, i need a timer for the glow plugs and i might buy a conversion v8 rad. 4 core for cooling! I not sure which 4-wheel trans manual it come with either a r150 or a r151f all i know is the last trans is a trurbo and every 4-wheel guy says their the tough.I dont know how to wire this at all dont have it or the manual yet, i have herd its easy. I did a ford 302 carb before and i hope it goes like that. Well i guess i will to be asking alot of the experts here for advice and hope people chime in!
P.S. half cut must cost ya a bundle!! |

If ya goto yotatech.com & do a search on diesel, you will find a guy in Barcelona, Spain that has your 1KZ-T engine in his 4 runner. He LOVES it.
He has not had a problem with it. It has alot of miles and still going strong. |

Most parts should be available from Japan, Europe or Australia for the 1KZ-TE engine. This engine has been around for a while, so parts should not be a big issue. Complete engines are under AUD$4K.
Note that this engine came with an intercooler is some locations, and an mechanical cable operated throttle body in some areas, and a full fly by wire configuration. There are also atleast 3 ECU's - two of them have different physical connections. Ensure you get a front cut with all the electronics. The full electronic engine with intercooler is the preferable engine (although a top mount intercooler can be adapted with some work). It makes more power, and has more tuning potential. Add a good exhaust, clean up the induction system (this does NOT mean a K&N type pod filter), and a Diesel Tuning Module for around 30kw more power. The exhaust was done by the local exhaust shop (4x4 club member), the inlet stuff I did, and the Diesel Tuning Module came from ENG-TEK here in Australia. This is the configuration I have on my car. The 1KZ-FTV engine is just over 2 years old (production), so used are only avail ex EU or JAPAN - however it is 120kw standard with more avail from a Diesel Tuning Module. |

I've got a KZ-T in my 93 Land Cruiser and I just love that engine. Mine is all mechanical and has great power. It eagerly revs up and over 4000 rpm's and I've had that truck up to over 90 mph on more than several occasions. No intercooler and it is all factory original--currently I'm at 23,000 miles with it.
